What Is Freesat?

Freesat is a FREE digital satellite TV service offering customers over 140 Digital TV channels & 80 digital radio channels, providing a great solution for households unable to receive the Freeview digital signal.

What channels are available?

Freesat offers more than 140 digital tv channels including BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, BBC HD, ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4, Five, QVC, Price Drop TV, Sky News, CBBC and TMF, plus many more.

You also have 80 digital radio channels, including all of the BBC radio channels, Classic FM, XFM and NME Radio.

What is the difference between Freesat & Freeview?

There are a few differences between Freesat and Freeview, including the availability of the service, the TV & Radio channel lineups, the required equipment and finally the costs. The main difference of course is that Freeview is terrestrial digital TV, whereas Freesat is satellite digital TV.

As the Freeview signal comes from terrestrial broadcasting antenna, you are only required to install a set top box in order to access the system. As the Freesat system receives its signal from a satellite, you also need to install a mini dish as well as a relevant set top box. The benefit of this system is that Freesat ensure a much wider coverage area of 98%, compared to the 78% coverage of Freeview. They also offer a larger channel selection and various optional upgrades such as Freesat HD & Freesat+.
